Building Community, One Bench at a Time – Our 2025 Teen Police Academy Workshop
On August 6, 2025, Norfolk Hardware & Home Center proudly partnered once again with the Boston Police Department to host our annual building workshop with the Teen Police Academy — marking our third year of collaboration.
Founded by Officer Darryl Owens in 2007, the Teen Police Academy is a paid summer program that gives Boston teens a chance to gain real-world experience through physical training, community service, and educational workshops across various Boston neighborhoods. The program’s mission is to empower local youth while strengthening trust and communication between them and the police.
This year, our Norfolk team joined officers and teens to build eight new picnic tables, which will be placed at community centers and precincts throughout Boston. The teens received hands-on instruction in basic carpentry — from measuring and drilling to understanding tool safety — all with the guidance of Norfolk employees and volunteers.
All building materials were donated and pre-cut by Norfolk Hardware & Home Center, allowing participants to focus on teamwork, craftsmanship, and giving back to the community.
